Why does God allow bad things to happen?
One night, I was in my bedroom praying and just reading the scripture. It took a while but finally, I grew still from all the demands of my day. I read Matthew 13:24-30:
He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”‘”
And Matthew 13:36-43
Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
As I read these passages I began to ask the Lord in my Spirit, “Father why do you not pull the weeds so that they do not take the nutrients from the good plants? Why do you let these things happen to your kids?”
It was then that the Lord reminded me of my story. I heard it as if He sat right with me, feeding me word after word.
Your great grandmother never married the man who got her pregnant. She worked in his office as a nurse and she and another nurse both became pregnant by him. Because he feared his wife finding out, he told them to get an abortion or leave. At that time it was still illegal to murder my gifts and so she was forced to leave West Virginia and the life she loved. Then she moved to Ohio to start over.
When your grandfather was born she hated him and blamed him for all that had happened. She gave him the last name of the doctor who got her pregnant. She never forgave the doctor and held that rage against her son. She treated him harshly and abused him until he ran away at 12. She later took all that anger to the mental hospital where she lived until she died never forgiving or seeking me.
Your grandfather joined the army at 17 but was rejected because of health and drove an ice truck to provide for himself and marry your grandmother who loved him but was frustrated with his childish heart. He never came to me till right before he died. He forgave his mother and asked forgiveness from his friends and family.
Your dad was born into this family and its struggles and I gave him the gift of medicine. He went to the Air Force and they paid for his nursing school. It was at college that he met your mom and they got married and had you and your brothers.
Please understand if I had pulled the weed of your grandmother because she would never turn to me, then at the same time I would have uprooted you and your kids and your dad and grandfather. I made the choice to endure her hatred of me for the love of you. Therefore, I endure the sins of the world because of the love I have for my creation. I look from the outside and see her and you and everything else all at once and so I garden not just the moment but all of time.
The story of my ancestry sank in. After a while, in my spirit, I heard the Lord say:
I did this because I am love. To love means; I give choice. If I force then it is unloving because it is tyrannical. Now that you know this; understand that I have endured every sin since the first sin in the Garden; seeking people who would want to be with me. I could have removed everything after the sin but chose to seek to redeem the broken rather than crush it.
I gave Adam the choice to obey or disobey and then told him the results of his choice. I have held the door open from death forever by Jesus who took the death penalty given to Adam and all who sin. This is how each generation has the same choice to choose me or reject me. Each has their one life in the flesh to determine where the Soul lives forever. Yet I see each soul from the beginning to end and I know many who look like weeds now will be transformed into wheat by my power. I will snatch them from the fire and give them a place with me.
I allow the choices that are evil and give people time to repent seeking to save all who would call on my name. Yet I move people and prune people for the sake of love for many others.
When God was speaking all this, I wept. It was heavy on my heart but then as He shared that – He the perfect, loving, graceful and merciful Father endures the sins and rejection of His children from the garden till the end of the 1000-year reign of Jesus – it just laid me on the floor grieving how I have failed Him so many times and hurt Him. At the same time; the joy of the Lord gave me strength as I trusted in His righteousness. It seemed like I was there for a long time until my daughter came and said dad please come and play with me. It made my heart surge with thankfulness that God allowed my grandfather to endure his life and my father to have his so that I could see my daughter be given the same choice to grow in God or reject Him. How I pray she knows Him as I know Him.
Please if you have questions that you want laid before God please share them and I will spend time in prayer listening to God and asking Him. Please understand though that He talks on His time and I am just a servant who follows Him.
